Four Steps. No Shortcuts.

Every engine repair and rebuild at Chris’s Diesel Service follows the same sequence. Diagnose first, scope honestly, build correctly, and verify before delivery.

  1. 01

    Diagnose and Scope

Full diagnostic and physical inspection. We isolate the failure, document the condition of the rest of the engine, and decide repair versus rebuild before quoting.

  2. 02

    Written Quote First

Itemized parts and labor on paper. OEM versus alternates clearly marked. Timeline included. No work begins until you authorize the quote in writing.

  3. 03

    Repair or Rebuild

In-house teardown and reassembly. Machine work coordinated locally. OEM internals where they exist. Photo-documented for jobs that go past a single day.

  4. 04

    Test and Sign Off

Initial start, break-in procedure, and a real road test under load. Chris personally signs off before the vehicle is released back to you.

The Standard. Every Engine.

A rebuild is only as good as the parts that go in it and the person who signs off on it. We control both. Below is what every engine repair and rebuild at our Midland shop is held to before it leaves the bay.

  • OEM First OEM internals where the manufacturer still produces them. Best available alternate where they do not. Quote shows exactly which is which.
  • In-House Built in our 140 by 150 ft Midland shop. Not outsourced. Not sold as an exchange unit. The person who signs off is the person who built it.
  • Machine Work Block, head, and crank machine work coordinated with trusted local machine shops we have used for years. Specs documented and verified.
  • Sign-Off Real road test under load before delivery. Personal sign-off from Chris on every rebuild. Zero comebacks for incomplete or incorrect work in 2025.

Common Questions

Do you rebuild gas engines or only diesel?
Both. Chris’s Diesel Service rebuilds gas and diesel passenger engines in-house at our Midland shop. The standard is the same on every rebuild: OEM internals where they exist, machine work coordinated locally, and a personal sign-off from Chris before the vehicle is released.
When should I rebuild instead of replace the engine?
Rebuild when the block, heads, and crank are still good and the failure is internal. Replace when the block itself is cracked or unrepairable. We tell you honestly which one your engine actually needs after teardown, and we never sell a rebuild on a block that should be replaced.
How long does an engine rebuild take in Midland, TX?
Most passenger engine rebuilds run five to ten business days at our Midland shop, depending on the platform and parts availability. Diesel platforms and engines waiting on machine work can take longer. We give you a written timeline before any work starts.
Do you use OEM parts for engine rebuilds?
Yes. OEM internals where they exist and the best available standard where they do not. We do not use cheap aftermarket internals on any engine that leaves this shop, and we tell you on the quote exactly which parts are OEM and which are alternates.
What if my engine was already worked on by another shop?
Bring it in. We inspect the work, document what is actually there, and quote the remaining repair honestly. We will not redo good work or sell parts you already have. We also will not sign off on a rebuild we did not do the foundation of.

Engine Acting Up? Or Already Down?

Bring it in. We will diagnose the failure, scope the repair honestly, and tell you the truth about repair versus rebuild before any work begins.
